Barometric pressure
[ Up ] [ Thermometers ] [ Barometric pressure ]
Barometers measure the barometric or air pressure of the air molecules surrounding us.
The rule of thumb for barometric pressure is that a slow rise is a sign of
improving weather and a drop is a sign of wet weather. A rapid rise or
fall indicates bad weather.
A storm accompanied by a rapid drop in air pressure usually means the storm
will not last long.
A storm accompanied by a slow and steady drop in pressure will usually be
long and severe.
A rapid rise in pressure often means high winds and heavy rain.
Slowly rising pressure usually means the weather is improving.
When air pressure falls rapidly it usually means rain is on the way.
